- In Heads Up poker game or tournament, you are just playing against one opponent. Learning the playing style of that person, being aggressive or defensive according to the situation and switching up your play both throughout the game and during the heads up round can be a great advantage for you. As your opponent won’t know what will be your next move.

-
- Observe the decisions of your opponent so that you can determine what kind of player he/she is. If your opponent is playing most of the hands and raises more often although he/she don’t have the best hand, it means that he/she is an aggressive player. However, a defensive player will fold or call usually, and will never raise, if he/she is holding a decent hand.

-
- If you are playing against an aggressive player, you must play accordingly. It’s better to fold if you are not sure to win. But when you feel that you have a good pot-winning chance, just make a big bet. When you limp into a pot, an aggressive player will take your advantage by forcing you to fold and winning the chips.

-
- If you are playing against a defensive player, you need to play more aggressively and bluff more often while betting higher. Thus, forcing your opponent to fold. Always be ready to battle when your opponent has a big hand as he/ she will possibly call your raise and win the pot.

-
- Avoid limping into the pots, when you are holding a bad or moderate hand. Instead, fold your hand to reduce your losses. Likewise, bet higher when you have a good hand and this includes going all-in as well.

-
- If you are sitting in the small blind, then you must either fold or raise. Avoid limping into the pot and getting trapped.
| |
-
- If you are sitting in the small blind, then fold your poor hole cards. As losing a few chips is better than calling a big blind and losing more. If your opponent folds too, the chips will probably cancel each other out.
| |
- Likewise, in the small blind, always raise with the strong hands like small or medium pocket pairs, medium or high suited connectors or a face-card with a kicker. As a rule, if you have one of those cards, then you have a good chance of beating your opponent.
| |
- Slow play your big pocket cards like KK or AA. If you bet big before the flop, you will all set to scare your opponents into folding and leaving you with only the big blind as your win.
| |
- Use a different strategy when you are sitting in the big blind. Check or watch the flops for free or fold a poor set of hole cards.
